This privacy policy explains how we (Turtle Chat Rooms) collect, use, share and transfer your personal data when you use our IRC servers,, and (“our sites”) as well as our app (collectively “our services”).

What data we collect

The personal data we collect from you includes:

Your nickname/username
Your email address when you register an account
Your Internet Protocol (IP) address and details of which web browser you use
Information on how you use our site using cookies and page tagging techniques
Your age, sex and/or location if you choose to provide this information

We use Google Analytics and Cloudflare to collect information about how you use our sites. This data is anonymized.

Google Analytics stores information about:

The pages you visit on our sites
How long you spend on each page
How you got to the site
What you click on while you’re visiting the site

How we use it

Your email address is used to confirm account ownership and for account management purposes such as password resets
Cloudflare and Google Analytics data is used to improve our sites and delivery of our content
Your nickname/username and IP address is used for account management purposes and to protect our services from abuse
Your age, sex and/or location (if provided) are displayed to other users of our services

We do not log public or private chat on our IRC servers however users may log their own chats privately. Be careful about disclosing personal information in our chat rooms or in private messages because that information may be logged by a third party, which is beyond our control.

We will share your data if required to do so by law - for example, by court order.

How long we keep your data

We retain most data for a period of 30 days after which the data is removed from our systems. We retain all account information and data indefinitely unless a user deletes their account or it is automatically removed for inactivity, in which case the data is subject to our general data retention policy of 30 days.

Children’s privacy protection

Our services are not designed for, or intentionally targeted at, children 13 years of age or younger. We do not intentionally collect or maintain data about anyone under the age of 13.

How we protect your data

We are committed to doing all that we can to keep your data secure. We have set up systems and processes to prevent unauthorised access or disclosure of your data. We also make sure that any third parties that we deal with keep all personal data they process on our behalf secure.

Changes to this policy

We may change this privacy policy. Any changes to this privacy policy will apply to you and your data immediately. If these changes affect how your personal data is processed, we will take reasonable steps to let you know.
